Superintendent Letter - Sept 1, 2023

Dear Reiche community,

I’m writing with the great news that we received an official certificate of occupancy from the City of Portland today for Reiche Elementary School for key areas of the school that have been under construction. The building will be ready to welcome students in grades 1-5 back on Wednesday, Sept. 6, and our younger students in pre-K and kindergarten on Sept. 7, as scheduled.

The contractor has made huge progress since I communicated with you last week, and the city signed off on the work today. All of the current phase spaces – bathrooms, administrative offices, the nurse’s suite, PT/OT rooms and intervention rooms – are essentially complete and any finishing work will be done by Tuesday, Sept. 5, the day before students arrive.

We are very excited about the completion of this latest phase of the project to transform Reiche into a building better suited for 21st-century learning. However, we want to remind the Reiche community that other parts of the building are still under renovation and will not be completed for several more months. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we near our goal!

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns by contacting teacher leaders Lori Bobinsky (bobinl@portlandschools.org), Charlie Marenghi (marenc@portlandschools.org) or Anne Dalphin (dalpha@portlandschools.org), or our Executive Director for Operations, Dr. Sarah Warren (warres@portlandschools.org).

Sincerely,

Ryan Scallon, Ed.D.
Superintendent
