Before and After School Programs

 

Reiche is very fortunate to have several before and after school programs that provide extra learning opportunities for our students.

Portland Recreation Dept provides before and after school care with trained staff and lots of structured games and activities. For more information, call the Portland Rec Dept. at Reiche 874-8873.

Intramurals.Throughout the school year, intramural sports are offered to students before and after school. For more information, please contact Michael Caiola.

Project S.A.F.E. and S.M.A.R.T. Reiche was one of 5 schools in Portland to receive a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant, known locally as S.A.F.E. and S.M.A.R.T (Support and Access for Family Empowerment And Noteworthy Delivery of Science, Math, Arts, Reading and Technology). Through this grant Reiche staff, tutors, volunteers and community specialists provide homework assistance, puppetry and drama with Shoestring Theater, computer projects, sign language and more. Grades 1-5 can participate from 3:00 to 5:30 Monday through Friday. SAFE AND SMART also has summer programming available to all Reiche students. For more information please contact school

Project RESPECT is a mentoring program that brings together twenty Waynflete students and twenty Reiche students. Each mentor meets with his or her Reiche student once a week during school. The entire group then meets one afternoon a week after school for a planned activity. The program's mission is to build on the strengths and to foster the resiliency of each student through a variety of activities intended to foster the mentoring relationships. Dawgs and Pups program is a student driven joint program of Greater Portland Big Brothers Big Sisters, Portland High School and Reiche Elementary School. It has been in existence since 1997 and involves selected students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Matched students meet from 3:00 to 5:00 every Wed. that school is in session in supervised individual and group activities. The name of the program is based on the Portland High Mascot, the bulldog. The mission of Dawgs and Pups is to focus on Reiche students' esteem building by providing them with guidance and leadership through committed relationships with Portland High School students. The primary focus of the program is the mentoring relationship that develops between the "Bigs" and their "Littles." For more information please contact Reiche School
