Reiche School
A Shared Community Commitment
The Howard C. Reiche Community School is committed to providing a student-centered learning setting in which all students have the opportunity to develop and grow as learners. As a community-based school, our partnerships with parents and the community are a valued, integral part of our school. In many ways, our school reflects the broader commitment of the city of Portland through our ongoing collaboration with a variety of community supports and programs. The city's commitment to providing a welcoming environment to immigrant and refugee populations is further reflected in our international student population. Our students represent over 48 countries and speak more than 28 different languages. Our school offers new families a sense of community, and our staff is dedicated to helping all students develop a strong sense of community, respect, and love of learning.
The focus on community extends to learning communities that include parents, staff, and students. As a community of learners, classrooms are developed to promote student responsibility, individual learning goals, and respect and acceptance for all learners. As an adult learning community, teacher development and program development are ongoing and considered to be at the heart of our every day work. Our learning community extends to parents, and they are encouraged and welcomed as partners in their child's learning and their learning as well.
Howard C. Reiche School offers many unique opportunities that are directly linked to community-based programs. It is our ongoing commitment to work collaboratively with the community that ultimately allows these programs to enhance and support our commitment and belief that teaching and learning is a shared community commitment. Therefore, each student, parent, teacher, and community member is valued and contributes to the sense of community that makes Reiche a unique and exciting school!
